The 2014 number one draft pick Patrick McCartin has signed a new two year deal that will see him remain at the club until the end of the 2018 season.
McCartin managed just the six senior games in his first year at the Saints, kicking three goals.
The 19 year old says he has been working on his endurance and been doing double the work-load since last pre-season.
"I'm getting consistent sessions in and building the fitness base," McCartin said at this afternoon's press conference.
"I'm doing double what I did last year and feeling the difference. I've lost a bit of puppy fat and put on some muscle.
"I want to play some consistent footy.
I'm really happy to re-sign to 2018. It was a no-brainer really, the club's looked after me and I'm excited to sign on."
McCartin went on to add that all players have messaged new recruit Jake Carlisle and can't wait to play alongside him in 2017.
"We've all messaged Jake. We're behind him and hoping he and the 33 other blokes can get through it alright.
"He was working really hard and it was disappointing to lose him but he'll come back better next year."
